Assist Mens Can Anyone help me understand this Semen Analysis?
My partner went to the doctors to get a semen analysis, he got his results back today, however the doctor was very vague as far as offering any information and didn't appear to know a lot about fertility, she was unable to even suggest a supplement to assist with mens fertility, so were are going to see a fertility specialist next week...
She did say the count was Low.. "Normal Forms" should be above 15% however my partners was 11%. I will list the rest of the results..
Volume = 4.0
Sperm Concentration = 20
Rapidly Progressive = 25%
Slowly Progressive = 25%
Non Progressive = 0%
Non Motile = 50%
Normal Forms = 11%
Any help in understanding any this would be appreciated.
We have now been TTC for 18months.
Thanks All..
The volume sounds adequate, as long your results mean 20 million per ML. I am pretty sure your motility sounds good, too, but your morphology sounds possibly off, I hate to say it....
I think you are supposed to have a higher percentage of normal forms? But all labs use different criteria and present the data differently -- and I'm definitely no expert here -- so it is best to talk it over with the fertility specialist.
If your hubby's sperm does turn out to have high morphology, then you can do IVF or ICSI, which gives excellent results in cases like this. Make sure your reproductive endocrinologist has a lot of experience in ICSI, as it is relatively new....
Good luck!
"Conditions warranting referral for male infertility are: a sperm concentration of less than 20 million per mL, motility less than 35%, and morphology less than 5% (Kruger) or 30% (WHO)."
