Buying Your Kid His First Baseball Mitts
Baseball is one of the most popular sports in the United States today, and children line up to try their hands at being the next Alex Rodriguez or Diasuke Matsuzaka. When you enroll your child in sports, they already have an image in their heads of what equipment that they need. What they may not understand is that there is much more to choosing the appropriate gear than the color, if it is a signature series, or what their sports hero uses.
The Look
There is particular care associated with picking out gear for young children. For optimal comfort and safety, their equipment must be of a comfortable design and fit properly. Children visualize themselves as being baseball stars; so when they see the youth-sized mitt that you are looking at for them, they are usually a bit disappointed. Rather than give in to your child's whim and sacrifice their safety, consider other ways to make their glove more desirable.
You may want to discuss with the coach which designs are the most popular this year, as well as what brand of mitts and what stores coincide within your personal budget. Even though your child may not appreciate the size of his gear, he will probably be comforted by having a similar glove to the other children on the team. Try to locate the signature of a player that they respect on a glove if you can, this can really make their glove something special.
The Size
If your child is a youngster, just old enough to register for the tee-ball teams in your town, then you will want the smallest glove that the stores offer. This is usually a 9” youth glove (which means that it is nine inches from the base of the palm to the tip of the middle finger). The next size up would be the 11” youth glove, if your child is somewhat older, or has larger hands than the usual 5-7 year old.
If you are not sure about what size to choose for your child, bring them with you. Much like shoes, it is best to try on baseball mitts before you bring them home. If the mitt fits like their dad's shoes, then step it down a size. If the child feels uncomfortable and you can feel their fingers being restricted, then step it up a size. Bear in mind that your child will likely think that a glove that fits well is too snug at first, as it is not broken in properly.
Youth sizes are not designed to depress a child's enthusiasm, but to encourage better safety and ease of use. If your child's mitt does not “fit like a glove,” then when they use it on the field it will not respond like one. It is always better to use a open web design for children. This allows the child to peek through the glove webbing to look for incoming balls, allowing for better catches with the mitt and fewer taken to the body.
The Quality
Though you may need to opt for discount baseball gloves, you should make sure that this price does not exclude quality. We have all heard of the 9 year old that was disqualified from little league for his minor league pitching speed. Even if your child does not come up against this sort of skill; sports are competitive, and children are driven individuals. Your child's safety should always come first, so ask your local equipment dealer to help you understand what makes a child's baseball glove safe.
Be sure to oil the glove for its life and flexibility. If glove oil is a bit pricey for your sports budget, petroleum jelly will do in a pinch. Put a baseball inside of the glove (as though the glove were holding the ball) and wrap it with some rubber bands for a day or two. This will help the glove take a shape that catches and holds the ball better on the field. With the proper equipment and the proper care, a baseball glove will give you years of good use.
The comfort of a well broken in glove can be hard to let go of. Your child may not bring up a glove that has become too small until their fingers are uncomfortably cramped inside. Be sure to check your child's glove size before every season for maximum safety. With the support of your coach and your equipment dealer, you will find that choosing your child's first baseball glove can be an exciting learning experience.

Who Invented Baseball
The idea always will continue to confuse me as to why a particular group of individuals take the time to try to alter history, especially with the technology we have nowadays. With new advances in technology, science has given us a better way to confirm facts better than ever. Nevertheless, a good deal of energy has to gone right into not only validating the truth that was always there to begin with, but to end all of the falsehoods that confuses people who looks for the facts.
The actual historical past regarding Baseball proceeds back to the time frame of the pyramids when it is recorded in accent tombs that Egyptians played stick ball. It is also noted by British and the Americans that they played games similar to baseball in the 1800's call "stool ball" or "Cricket" or "The American Town Ball". A combination of these games came together to eventually evolved into baseball.
Several people were once convinced that a young civil war vet known as Abner Doubleday, created the game baseball one evening in 1839 in Cooperstown, New York. The particular misconception was initially developed by a panel of so called baseball experts who were hired to find out the origins of the game. This group was the Mills Commission in 1905. Their last report acknowledged Abner Doubleday as the creator of the baseball in Cooperstown, New York. Then again, there were hardly any facts to support such a strange claim.
In 1839, Mr. Doubleday was a soldier of the Civil War and a cadet at West Point, there is no proof that Doubleday had ever even been to Cooperstown, NY. The Commission centered its findings on the account of Abner Graves (A friend of Abner Doubleday). Mr. Graves however cannot be considered as a credible witness due to his strange background. (Abner Doubleday was considered insane.)
When Doubleday passed away, he left behind plenty of personal letters. None of them ever referred to himself as the man who invented baseball. It truly is difficult to accept that if the guy found the great game of baseball, never mention it in none of his personal letters..
It was finally agreed upon in 1953 by congress that the inventor of baseball was Alexander Cartwright the inventor of the diamond (the baseball field).

Is there an easy or an accessory to buy to help hoop a baseball hat?
I would like to embroider a baseball cap for my son but have no idea how to do it on my Baby Lock Ellisimo

The second link is to a site which has a Hoop-It-All available for at least some Ellisimos - see second 'headline' down. You can also embroider your design on cutaway stabilizer, trim it up and glue it to the cap. Good luck!

Is there an EA Sports baseball game for 2010?
I've always been a big EA Sports fan, with NHL 10 being one of my favourite games. So far the only 2010 baseball games I have seen are MLB 10: The Show and MLB 2K10. I have an Xbox 360 so i can't play The Show, and I'm not sure if i want a 2K sports game. So is there an EA game coming out?
no more than likely they wont they have stuck to their big sellers and dropped the ones that didnt make a ton of money but ive heard good things about 2k10 so my advice is to rent it for a night or a week whatever and see if you like it because from reviews theyve made it a lot better than past games

Fungo bat vs. driver?
My friend and i have a $200 bet. He says that he can hit a golf ball further with his driver than i can hit a golf ball with my fungo bat. He was a D1 college golfer and i am a D1 college baseball player. What do you think?
I think it will be closer than others think. Swing speed, club weight and sweet spot are paramount. Your swing speed should be around 90 mph but your bat weight helps. His should be around 120 mph. One problem I see is that he's hitting a stationary ball and you would not be. thus, more difficult to hit the sweet spot. With that in mind you'll lose the bet and hit the ball around 500-650 feet and he'll hit it over 800 feet. My advice to you is to hit it down a road....

The Important Role of Softball Drills in Winning
In any kind of sport, it is always true that practice makes perfect. You need to work hard in order to become a skillful player. You should multiply your skills and abilities to have a better chance of making the best player in your chosen sport. Of course your coach has an important part in your quest. Your coach will be your guide and will tell you what skill should you put more focus on and what are the drills you should practice.
In the field of softball, softball pitching and hitting are two main keys to win the game. You should use a good combination of this in order to have a higher chance of winning. You need to practice more to improve these skills. Softball drill will help a lot to multiply your skills in hitting and pitching.
Your coach should have enough knowledge about the different softball drills so that you can choose the most effective drill.
Some common softball drills which can you incor4porate in your everyday practice are:
- Back Knee Down
The main purpose of this drill is to improve your upper body strength and quickness. It is done to decrease the lower body movements like lunging and upper cutting. It focuses to keep the barrel above your hands. The use of proper timing is also essential in this drill.
The drill can be done by using a low T. the hitter will kneel on a towel with the back knee positioned in 90 degree angle. The shoulders should be level on plane. You can also do it in a soft toss as long as the bat will hit the ball.
- Hitting Fungoes
It is the drill that improves the action of the hand, shifting of the weight, downward swing and follow-through.
There should be some players staying on the deck. They will be the one to hit the fungoes toward the direction of the fielders on the side of the infield. You should have four hitters in each of the three hitting stations. The hitters will take a certain number of swings and then rotate at the back of the line of the next hitting station. The hitter should complete the rotation passing the three hitting stations. After the rotation one line can rotate to the infield spots and the infielders can come to hit the ball. You should hit the top half of the baseball using a short, downward swing.
- Draw a Line
It is for the purpose of practicing the moving of the hands to the ball. It will also develop the speed and strengthen the lead arm.
To start with the drill, the batter will estimate the stance even without holding the bat. The lead hand should be in its normal position with the thumb up. The hitter then will draw a line across her chest and then extends the ball.
- Snap Backs
It will multiply the quickness of the hands, small stride, and forearm and the strength of the wrist.
Your player should have corresponding partner. The partner will stand six feet from the batter and will toss the ball in the fastest speed towards the contact point of the strike zone. The hitter standing up will drive one ball after another into the net taking the swing and snapping the bat back to the staring point.
- Quick Hands
It will surely increase your ability in quick hands, backswing and compact swing.
First the tosser will stand in front of the batter and behind a screen with 15 feet distance to the hitter. The batter will positioned the bat pointing the tosser, then return the hand back quickly, and then forward again now hitting the tossed ball.
